President Trump extends social distancing guidelines to April 30th

On March 16, President Donald Trump announced a set of guidelines titled “15 Days to Slow the Spread” encouraging social distancing while reinforcing existing CDC recommendations. On Sunday, the President extended those guidelines until April 30th.

After initially stating that he hoped to have the country “opened up and just raring to go by Easter”, the President now says that “we can expect that by June 1st, we will be well on our way to recovery.”

The extension of the guidelines was announced after President Trump explained that current data shows the COVID-19 death rate is expected to reach its peak in two weeks.

In Mississippi, Governor Tate Reeves recently signed an executive order which enforces many of these guidelines at the state level. The order instructs businesses to allow non-essential employees to work from home, the limitation of social gatherings of 10 or more people, the suspension of dine-in services at restaurants and asks state residents not to visit hospitals, nursing homes, or long-term care facilities.
