No fans at SEC sporting events until March 30th due to coronavirus

The spread of the coronavirus will impact the SEC Basketball Tournament in Nashville and at least the beginning of the SEC baseball slate.

In a news release, the Southeastern Conference announced that, effective immediately, all regular-season contests in all sports on SEC campuses and SEC Championship events will be played without fans in attendance through at least March 30th.

Ole Miss was knocked out of the SEC Tournament by Georgia earlier tonight, and Mississippi State will play the winner of the UGA/Florida matchup in Friday’s quarterfinals after receiving a double-bye as the 4-seed.

For baseball fans in Mississippi, this means that Ole Miss’ series with LSU in Oxford this weekend and Mississippi State’s series with Arkansas in Starkville will be played in front of empty seats with the exception of essential staff, limited family and credentialed media members.

Below, you’ll find each athletic department’s statements regarding purchased tickets following the announcement.

Mississippi State:

All ticket purchases for MSU baseball and the NCAA Women’s Basketball Championship will be refunded within 30 days. Those who purchased individual game tickets to baseball games during the March 12-30 period will be refunded or issued a credit for future purchases. Baseball season ticket holders will be refunded or issued a credit in the amount of the value of those games in your season ticket package.

If you would prefer a credit for future purchases please call the ticket office at 662.325.2600 or email tickets@athletics.msstate.edu. We appreciate the understanding and patience of our fans during this process as phone lines will be busy. If you are not able to reach the ticket office via phone, please send an email. Ole Miss:

The Ole Miss Athletics Ticket Office will be in contact with all customers who purchased tickets to the 2020 SEC Men’s Basketball Tournament and Ole Miss home baseball games scheduled from March 13 – March 31.

Wednesday evening, the Mississippi State Department of Health reported the state’s first case of the virus in Forrest County.
