The Mississippi State Department of Health is reporting 674 new cases of COVID-19.

Today’s report brings the state’s total number of cases up to 32,888. 1,188 Mississippians have now passed away from the virus following this morning’s confirmation of 30 additional deaths.

There are currently 108 active outbreaks in Mississippi long-term care facilities.

As of Tuesday, 648 COVID-19 patients were hospitalized with 173 patients in ICU and 95 ventilators in use. With the state’s healthcare system currently under stress, MSDH announced Tuesday that restrictions on elective procedures requiring overnight hospitalization will be put into effect in several counties including Hinds, Madison, Rankin, Jones, Forrest, & Washington.

“We’re running out of ICU beds and we’re running out of hospital beds in certain areas. People aren’t getting the care they need. It’s happening now. This is not a future statement, this is a now statement,” State Health Officer Dr. Thomas Dobbs said.

As of Monday, 22,167 Mississippians had recovered from the virus.
