Perry tested the waters of the NBA Draft a season ago but returned for his sophomore season. During the 2019-20 season, Perry was a contender for ‘SEC Player of the Year’ as the only player in the conference to average a double-double (17.4 points and 10.1 rebounds per game).

Throughout his two seasons as a Bulldog, Perry’s 26 career double-doubles led the SEC. In those two seasons, Perry totaled 868 points, 557 rebounds, and 61 blocks. According to MSU Athletics, the 868 points are fourth-most for an MSU player during their freshman and sophomore seasons only behind Jamont Gordon, Ray White and Rickey Brown. The 557 rebounds are the highest two-year total for an MSU player since Jarvis Varnado in 2008-09 and 2009-10 and ranked inside the program’s top 30.

The Bulldogs finished the 2019-20 season on the bubble for the NCAA Tournament. Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the Bulldogs never got to play another game after their regular-season finale as the SEC Tournament was canceled following day one in Nashville.

According to SportsTalk Mississippi’s Brian Hadad, there have been several other departures from the Bulldog program by way of the transfer portal this offseason.

“Perry is the sixth Bulldog to leave the team this offseason, as freshmen Elias King and Devin Butts, juniors Prince Oduro and KeyShawn Feazell, and senior EJ Datcher have all announced they will be entering the transfer portal,” Hadad explained.

He went on to note that sophomore Robert Woodard, who has yet to make a decision on his future, has been projected as 25th overall in certain mock drafts.
